Adventure Ministry
At Ascending Adventures we strive to minister cooperatively with the Christian leadership from your group. In a back-country setting, immersed in His Creation, with minimal creature comforts, we have a unique opportunity to “get real” while sharing an exciting, unifying experience. We strive to capitalize on this opportunity through creative ministry. We see adventure ministry as having three key components, or the P.I.E. model.
P- Programmed or pre-planned ministry: Devotionals, guided fireside activities or planned ministry activities as we travel by human power through the natural environment.
I- Intentional solitude: Solo time aimed at allowing the participant to engage in guided reflection while overlooking the glory of His Creation.
E- Experiential ministry: Teachable moments are plentiful in the outdoors. We will minister through the trials and triumphs your group experiences in the wild. We will apply Scripture and Christian quotes, engaging participants in meaningful discussion that offers immediate application.
We aim to facilitate ministry that transcends the adventure and can be brought home as action. We are only a piece of the pie, applying our gifts in adventure/wilderness ministry in partnership with your leadership, home church and the fellowship of believers. Together we aim to create fertile soil and open relational doorways for intentional discipleship.
Why Adventure Ministry?
Individual believers posess unique manifestations of the Holy Spirit. In our Creator's grand design, the believer is intended to offer their spiritual gifts with a servant's heart, as a united body of Christ, shining the light of Christ to the world. We believe that adventure and wilderness experiences offer a new paradigm to practice servant leadership and helps prepare them to apply their gifts in Christian unity in the modern world.
Romans 12:4-8, 1 Corithians12:4-27, Philippians 2:2-5
The glory and awe of God, the Creator can be intimately experienced through His works. Christ found sollitude, connection with the Father, and trial in preparation for his ministry in wild places. David penned many of the Psalms, while shepherding his flock over beautiful, green pastures. John the Baptist embraced his home in the wild country and drew thousand out into the wilderness for baptism. Our Biblical role models recognized the value of experiencing His Creation as a place to connect with the Creator of all things and to find solitude for prayer amidst the turbulance of daily life. "My experiences in the wild, the awe and the solitude, led to personal soul-searching that contributed greatly to ultimately recieving Christ as my Savior." - Mike. We believe that these experiences can also aid you in your spiritual journey toward salvation and His kingdom.
Job 12:7-9, Psalm 8, Psalm 19, Romans 1:20, Matthew 3:1-6, Mattthew 4:1-11, John 6:15, Matthew 26:30, Luke 22: 39-41
We invite the participant to look beyond current, self-imposed limitations and to seek positive challenges- physically, emotionally, intellecually and spiritually. We guide them into some of the beautiful gems of God's creation and allow Him to express His love through Creation in deeply personal ways. Participants are asked to interact with the environment and each other in ways that demonstrate stewardship toward these gifts. It is our goal to offer ministry programming that capitalizes on this relationship and utilize teachable moments along the trail and in camp to reinforce Biblical truth. All of this is done in respectful cooperation with the talented leadership your group offers, and to aid in the ministry of your church which ultimately will make the long-term differnce in the lives of participants.
For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities — his eternal power and divine nature — have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. -Romans 1:20
